Job description
SMART Photonics is scaling fast. We are moving from a capable InP foundry to industrial scale production from 4 inch to 6 inch wafers, while integrating with silicon photonics and pushing into real datacom volume. That transition is where things get difficult. And interesting.
We are looking for someone who has already lived through that phase and knows exactly where it breaks. you take ownership of our laser technology for data applications at platform level. You operate where device physics, yield, process reality, and customer requirements meet.
Your daily job:
Define where our InP laser platform for datacom goes next, including DFB and beyond
Decide which ideas are worth scaling and which are not
Push concepts into stable, manufacturable solutions
Work directly with process, epitaxy, test, and customers
Drive technical direction across R&D and production interfaces
You will be externally visible through conferences, consortia, customer engagement, and industry events.
You are expected to bring your own ideas, challenge current approaches, and take responsibility for making them work in reality.
Job requirements
PhD degree photonics and extensive industrial experience after the PhD, you have worked in the industry and and offer track record bringing photonic devices into real production
Strong expertise in InP PICs and datacom lasers, both from technical point of view as well on the ecosystem surrounding this.
Executive level credibility to influence engineers, customers, and leadership
You know where theory breaks and how to deal with it.
You see opportunities where others see limits, stay constructive under pressure, and find solutions where others get stuck.
Practical
Hybrid working possible (50% onsite)
Temporary housing support available if relocation is needed
Travel around 10 to 15 percent
