  • €4,000 - €5,500 per month
  • R&D

A dynamic environment with real-world impact on high-tech applications across multiple industries. Growth opportunities for senior and lead technical roles.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced R&D Scientist with a strong industrial background in integrated photonics and RF design. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in developing and testing high-speed photonic components such as receiver photodiodes (RFPD), modulators, and Uni-Traveling Carrier (UTC) photodetectors. This role is particularly suited for professionals who have worked in a high-tech industrial environment and can apply their knowledge directly to product development and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the industrial design, development, and testing of photonic integrated circuits (PICs), focusing on high-speed RF components such as RFPDs, modulators, and UTC photodetectors.

  • Analyze and optimize S-parameters for high-frequency photonic devices to meet stringent performance and reliability standards.

  • Develop robust test methodologies and procedures tailored for industrial validation of photonic and RF components.

  • Use advanced simulation tools to design and refine integrated photonic components with attention to RF behavior and manufacturability.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including packaging, electronics, and fabrication to deliver commercially viable solutions.

  • Perform and interpret experimental measurements, including high-frequency response and photodiode performance, using industry-standard RF test equipment.

  • Keep abreast of trends in the photonics industry and translate technological developments into tangible R&D activities.

  • Communicate findings and progress effectively within the team and with customers or partners as needed.

Job requirements

Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on industrial experience in integrated photonics, particularly in RF design for photonic devices.

  • Proven track record in designing and characterizing high-speed photonic components in a commercial or industrial setting.

  • Strong expertise in S-parameter analysis, RF simulation, and testing using VNAs, spectrum analyzers, and related tools.

  • Practical experience with design and testing of Uni-Traveling Carrier (UTC) photodetectors and high-speed photodiodes.

  • Proficiency in photonic design tools (e.g., Lumerical, OptoDesigner) and knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes.

  • Familiarity with InP photonic platforms and integration techniques.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with optical transceivers or communication systems, including high-speed modulation formats.

  • Knowledge of RF packaging, hybrid integration, and system-level design.

  • Strong project ownership mindset with a proactive, solution-oriented approach to industrial R&D challenges.
