Job description
About Us
SMART Photonics is a TIER 1 foundry and development partner in integrated photonics, committed to creating innovative products that enhance lives. We are seeking a Senior Optical Coating and Metallization Engineer to help us achieve our goals by driving advancements in our metal deposition and optical coating processes.
Role Overview
As a Senior Coating and Metal Engineer, you will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and developing metal deposition and optical coating processes, such as physical vapor deposition (PVD) and rapid annealing on 4” wafers. This role requires strong coordination skills, as progress often depends on input, actions, and alignment from various stakeholders across the organization.
Reporting to the Cluster Lead for Wet-Etch, Back-End, and Metal, you will lead efforts to improve process stability, yield, and cost-efficiency while maintaining technical oversight of the coating and metallization tools in the wafer fab.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee metal deposition and optical coating tools and processes.
Develop and optimize metal production processes, including evaporated PVD and rapid annealing.
Work effectively with multiple cross-functional teams (e.g. Test & Measurement, Back-End, and Operations) across the organization to achieve the goals.
Plan and execute tests to enhance process stability, throughput, and cost-efficiency.
Define and qualify production and auxiliary materials.
Manage and improve statistical process control (SPC) processes.
Provide technical support for tools and processes within the wafer fab.
Job requirements
Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
+7 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor or photonics industry;
Expertise in metallization and optical coating processes, PVD, and vacuum technology.
Experience working with metallization tools and Manufacturing Execution Software (MES).
Proven track record in process improvement using statistical tools like FMEA, SPC, and DoE.
Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.
If this aligns with your experience and passion for advanced metal and coating processing, we’d love to hear from you. Come join us in pushing the boundaries of photonic chip technology.
