Be like the high-performance engine of a car: unseen from the outside, yet the true driving force behind every movement
Job description
We are looking for a Senior Integration Engineer to join the Integration team at SMART Photonics.
The Integration team sits at the heart of our technology and manufacturing processes. It brings together professionals from around the world who share a steady, reliable way of working and a strong sense of ownership. This team plays a critical role in moving technology from development to stable production and is known for its open culture and long-term commitment.
As a Senior Integration Engineer, you will be a key technical contributor, working hands on photonic integration challenges and collaborating closely with R&D, Operations, and Design Engineering. This role is intended for experienced professionals ready to take ownership at a senior technical level.
Job tasks
· Contribute to the development and improvement of process integration architectures within agile projects, aligned with the Technology Roadmap.
· Act as a technical bridge between R&D and Operations, supporting the maturation of process modules and integration flows through structured Change Control Board (CCB) processes.
· Collaborate closely with Design Engineering, using photonic design tools to review designs for:
Process Control Monitoring (PCM)
Design for Testability (DfT)
Customer-specific photonic products
· Support the implementation and maintenance of Building Block (BB) data in the Process Design Kit (PDK), and help expand process knowledge across teams.
· Monitor and analyse development and production batches using MES, applying statistical and problem-solving tools such as DOE, 8D, PCM, and defectivity trend analysis to improve yield and robustness.
· Take ownership of assigned technologies, modules, or batches, and actively share expertise across the organization.
Job requirements
MSc or PhD degree in Integrated Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, with a strong focus on III–V technologies. Experience with InP or GaAs based integrated photonics is strongly preferred.
Proven industrial experience in addition to an academic background. This is a senior role best suited for experienced professionals with practical experience, rather than entry-level or purely academic profiles.
Several years of hands on experience in III–V photonic integration within an industrial or production environment.
Solid understanding of photonic process integration, yield optimization, and technology transfer to production. Device design or III–V device knowledge is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including experience with Excel, SPC, DOE, FMEA, and 8D.
A structured, reliable, and proactive working style in a dynamic environment.
What we offer
The freedom to make a real impact in a company shaping the future of Integrated Photonics.
A senior technical role within the NPI environment, contributing to a significant part of current production, from next generation platforms to customer specific processes.
An open, informal, and collaborative culture with skilled and passionate colleagues.
Exposure to complex technical challenges at the forefront of InP based photonic integration.
A diverse, international team where your technical contribution matters.
Work on nonstandard, technically challenging customer projects.
Tailored career development with training and coaching to support continued growth.
A workplace at the High-Tech Campus Eindhoven, the smartest square kilometre in Europe.
