The opportunity to lead complex technical challenges at the forefront of InP innovation.

Job description

Do you thrive on solving complex InP challenges? And can you translate photonic designs into scalable, high-performance processes?

We’re looking for an open-minded Process Architect with a proven track record in Photonic Integration to join our dynamic, fast-paced scale-up. In this role, you’ll guide technical teams to bring both new technology platforms and customer-specific specialty processes to higher levels of maturity. You’ll oversee implementation of technical modules and understand their impact on process architecture to drive III-V performance.

If so, come join our New Product Introduction (NPI) team! We are an international multi-talented group of engineers, architects & technicians, who are deeply involved across ~50% of current production output. We’re the quiet professionals that drive the New Technology and Product Development at Smart Photonics.

Job tasks

  • Develop Process Architectures in agile projects, ensuring alignment with the Technology Roadmap and timely introduction of new platforms.

  • Bridge R&D and Operations to mature technical modules and integration architectures in a modular fashion using Change Control Board (CCB) validation.

  • Collaborate with Design Engineering and use design software to review photonic designs for Process Control (PCM), Design for Testability (DfT) and Customer products.

  • Drive implementation of Building Block (BB) data into the Process Design Kit (PDK) and expand process knowledge across teams.

  • Monitor and analyze development and production batches using MES; apply statistical tools (DOE, 8D, PCM, defectivity trends) to address issue or improve yield.

  • Share expertise across the organization and take full ownership of technology developments and batch performance

Job requirements

  • PhD or MSc in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.

  • Minimum 6 years of industrial experience in III-V photonic integration (InP), including process and building block expertise.

  • Proven experience in leading technical teams, with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to balance detail with system-level oversight.

  • Solid knowledge of photonic process integration, yield optimization; design experience or III-V device know-how is a plus.

  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, including Excel, SPC, DOE, FMEA, and 8D methodologies.

  • Flexible, proactive mindset with the ability to adapt to dynamic, fast-changing environments.

What we offer

  • We offer you freedom, the opportunity to make impact in a possible future world leading company in the field of Integrated Photonics

  • Be part of NPI team involved in ~50% of current production (from next generation platform technology development to customer-specific specialty processes)

  • Join a talented group of passionate people working in an open, informal culture in multidisciplinary teams.

  • The opportunity to lead complex technical challenges at the forefront of InP innovation.

  • A collaborative and diverse international team culture where your voice matters.

  • Work on exciting, non-standard customer projects that are challenging.

  • A tailored career development with training and coaching for growth.

  • Work at the High Tech Campus, the smartest square kilometer in Europe.
