The Product Integration Engineering team is dedicated to maturing our core technology platforms and refining our Process Design Kit (PDK).

Job description

Team Mission

The Product Integration Engineering team is dedicated to maturing our core technology platforms and refining our Process Design Kit (PDK). We are committed to refining our technology and enhancing our methodologies to enable rapid, efficient adaptations in our manufacturing landscape. This approach ensures we can swiftly turn customer designs into manufactured realities without sacrificing quality.

Role Summary

As a Device Integration Engineer (Device Yield focus), you will ensure high and consistent yield of our platforms by analyzing test device performance, developing yield infrastructure, and designing measurement structures. You will collaborate cross-functionally to identify improvements and translate yield enhancements into scalable customer products. Your expertise in yield engineering, photonic device design, measurement, and data analysis will be vital to both your success and that of SMART Photonics’ customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own test device yield metrics and roadmaps across standard platforms; define targets and improvement plans.

  • Build, maintain, and improve yield monitoring and reporting infrastructure together with ICT; develop automated analyses and dashboards.

  • Design and execute experiments to isolate yield detractors; correlate device characterization, inline metrology, PCM, and end test results.

  • Define and develop new test and measurement structures to increase visibility into building block health. Propose adaptations of design rules if needed.

  • Partner with Process Integration, Process Engineering, Mask Design, R&D, and Operations to implement root cause corrections and sustainable improvements.

  • Translate platform yield improvements into customer product yield via DfM guidance, tape out reviews, and PDK updates.

  • Apply statistical methods (SPC, DOE, regression, Monte Carlo) for decision making and control; document and present findings.

  • Support failure analysis and structured problem solving (8D) for excursions and customer issues.

Job requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field; or equivalent work experience if in PhD.

  • Preferably 3+ years of semiconductor or photonics industry experience in yield engineering, process integration, process engineering, or device engineering.

    • Must have hands on experience with photonic devices on the following:

      • device design,

      • device measurements/characterization,

      • data analysis with scripting (for example Python or MATLAB).

  • Proven ability to complete projects and show concrete results. Results-driven mindset.

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate complex findings clearly.

  • Experience with statistical analysis, SPC, DOE, and data visualization tools (for example Minitab, JMP, Spotfire) is a big plus.
